Surah Al Baqarah
الم
- These are the separated letters
- It is a Ism Mafool
- It is scattered throughout the Quran
- Only Allah knows what they mean
- In Fatihah we asked for Guidance
- This is the first response to that request
- It teaches us intellectual humility
- We do not know anything only Allah knows
- We only know that which Allah teaches us
- Allah only allows you to know some things
- This ayah is the subject of the sentence
- These are names of letters
- Our Messenger did not know how to read and write
- Only those who know how to read and write know names of letters
- When Prophet recites these letters it baffles the people
- Who taught him how to read and write
- Allah taught him through divine means
ذَٰلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ ۛ فِيهِ ۛ هُدًى لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
- That is the book about which there is no room for any doubt in it
- A book that is etched and carved in and documented
- The actual Quran is in the highest Heaven
- That book is with Allah
- It is far away
- We asked for guidance and Allah responds this is the guidance
- It is a guidance and no doubt for the Mutaqeen
- Those who want to protect themselves
- ALM is that book
- ALM is like a name of the Quran
- This ayah is the predicate of the sentence
- Mutaqeen are those who are genuinely concerned about their guidance
- Mutaqeen are those who are looking to protect themselves
- Mutaqeen are those who fear disappointing Allah
- Those who fear the punishment of Allah
الَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْغَيْبِ وَيُقِيمُونَ الصَّلَاةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنْفِقُونَ
- Those who believe and have the potential in believing in the unseen
- They establish a connection with Allah
- Protecting yourself from the seen world is easy
- Protecting yourself from the unseen world is harder
- The starting point of Taqwa is fear of punishment
- Then it develops to fear of disappointing Allah
- If someone backbites and one says fear Allah and they stop right away
- Another may stop themselves if they see the person coming
- A guard gets tired and sleepy
- They keep their salah as a guard to keep them in check
- Salah means connection and it connects us to Allah
- When you are connected with someone all the time you think about them all the time
- Out of sight out of mind
- When there is a constant connection then you feel the loss
- So Allah gave us salah so our Iman stays fresh
- The dangers of the unseen takes extra effort
- Especially from what we provided them they spend
- What you see is the food and what you don’t see is that Allah provided it
- You give a child a candy and when you ask for it back they say no its mine
- Allah gives and gives and he asks back and we say why it was mine
- These people never forget Allah provided them
وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ وَبِالْآخِرَةِ هُمْ يُوقِنُونَ
- And those who believe and have the potential in believing in what was sent to you
- And what was sent before you
- And in the hereafter they have absolute conviction
- There are three parts of iman belief in Allah, Message, and Afterlife
- This surah focuses on believe in the message
- This is a privilege and we have been gifted with the Quran
- No one else was gifted with it
- These people are convinced like they seen it with your own eyes
- The kind of believe that can never be shaken
- Because you experienced it
- The danger of the unseen is the akhira
أُولَٰئِكَ عَلَىٰ هُدًى مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ ۖ وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ
- Those are upon right guidance from their Master
- Those are the successful
- Allah points out to them as far away
- Allah is saying you should be like them
- Like saying we have a long way to go
- Allah mentions guidance then guidance again
- Only these people are truly committed to guidance and successful
- There are two qualities given to the people of guidance
- Mutaqeen and Muflihoon
