- Referring to someone life

- It is used as a description
- The way one lives his or her life
- The first way or shape something is
- The way a person looks and acts
- The way a person behaves
- It is a literary term
- The overall life of the Prophet
- It is a emotional consolation for us
The Prophetic Biography
- Everything which has come to us and has been related to us
- Anything related and connected to the life and times of the Prophet
- The practice of the Prophet
- Every single day of the life of the Prophet
- All the attributes and characteristics
- His physical appearance
- His family life and home life
- The military expeditions of the Prophet
Why study Seerah?
- Seerah has been the subject of study since the beginning
- The Quran and Seerah are studied together
- We must apply the seerah in our life
- We must apply the sunnah in our lives
- How can I apply this in my life?
- What lessons we can learn from Seerah?
- Allah says the Prophet is an excellent example for us
- We should put ourselves in the shoes of the Prophet
- We need an in-depth study of the Seerah
- It helps to humanize the Prophet so we can follow his example
- And so we can relate to the Prophet
- How the Prophet had a family?
- How the Prophet suffered injury and loss?
- It is for every demographic in the community
- It is a practical guide on how to live your life
- To increase a love for the Prophet
Hadith
- Traditions of the Prophet
- It includes what the prophet did and said
- Excerpts from the life of the Prophet
- It is very technical
- It is verified and authenticated
- Rulings are derived from this
- It is not an overall narrative
- It is not studied absent of the Seerah
- Everyone should be aware of the Hadiths
- Every Muslim should know the basics of their deen
- Otherwise we will not know what breaks our wudu
- It has a different criteria than Seerah
Studying Hadith or Seerah?
- A preference is given to Seerah
- Quran and Hadith was studied in-depth
- Imam Bukhari’s life work was 6,000 Hadiths
- 6000 Hadiths is very little
Sunnah
- It is a very flexible word
- It includes everything
- Seerah of the Prophet is from the Sunnah
- Everything from the life of the Prophet is Sunnah
- The opposite of the word is biddah or innovation
- It is the recommended acts of the Prophet
- It includes mandatory acts as well
- Sunnah has its place
- Hadith has a place it applies
- Seerah has its place
How Seerah has been studied?
- It includes a Makkan period and a Madinan period
- Makkah period of Prophethood was 13 years
- Madinah period of Prophethood was 10 years
- There is a lot more narrated about the Madinah period than in Makkah
- The life and message of the Prophet was more open in Madinah than Makkah
- Prophet would practice in the house of Arqam in Makkah privately
- Madinah period was more eventful than the Makkah period
- A lot of the battles occurred in Madinah period
- Hajj occurred in the Madinah period
- There is still a lot of narrations from Makkah period too
- Makkan period holds a lot gems and insights for us
- We are not completely in the Makkan period
- We are not completely in the Madinah period either
- We must have a full well-rounded appreciation of the Seerah
- The Seerah of the Prophet begins from his birth
- It gives you an understanding of how the situation was
- To which time and place the Prophet was sent to
Authenticity of the Sunnah
- Is the Prophet’s Sunnah authoritative?
- Is it true or not?
- Can I trust it?
- How can we solve this issue?
- Quran is the book of Allah
- Allah has guaranteed the protection of the Quran
- Allah told us to follow the Prophet
- Allah protected the Seerah and Hadith as well
- Allah protected the Original Arabic language as well
- The system to preserve Quran is the same to preserve Hadith
- The narrators of Hadith and the same people who preserved the Quran
- We are told to love the Prophet
- Learning the Seerah increases our love for the Prophet
- We cannot love him without knowing about him
