Juz 1 Part 1 Ruku 2 Deeper Look
-
As for those who disbelief or have the potential of disbelieving it is the same whether you warn them or do not warn them they will never believe
- Allah used the plural and it seems it refers to all disbelievers
- It is not all disbelievers
- Sometimes you say people have hurt me
- You mean some people and not all people
- Allah is referring to a particular group of disbelievers
- It shows the frustration of Allah
- Allah is angry with these people
- It is referring to the heads of the Jewish community who rejected Quran
- Those who knew the Prophet and still rejected it
- They try to avoid the afterlife and Allah hits it harder in the Quran with it
- It is those people who denied the afterlife
- It is context based and referring to very bad people
- These people are completely stubborn in their ways
- This is one of the worst words to use for somebody
-
Allah has placed a seal upon their hearts, and upon their hearing, and upon their vision is a veil and for them is a painful punishment
- Like the sealing of a letter
- To put a lid on a container
- It is completed but not filled to the top
- You are done writing then you put a seal on it
- When something is a done deal and you put a seal on it
- All the goodness in their hearts has been exhausted
- Allah does not seal hearts until they exhibit stubbornness
- When you do not exercise you heart to accept guidance Allah will seal it
- They are incapable of love
- They develop a hatred for believers and justice
- These people are no longer grateful
- These people have no fear of consequences
- These are hopeless people
- These people have no guilt
- Devil beautifies their evil deeds for them
- These people are vulgar in their actions, speech, and clothing
- They have no sense of responsibility
- They have no sense of respect and dignity left
- Everything good that comes from the heart is again
- Allah placed a seal on the hearts first because it talks about matters of heart
- They can no longer hear beneficial speech
- The ear is directly connected to the heart
- Then they are blind to the truth because they refused to see it
- Everything is an Ayah but they can no longer see the ayat
- You do not see anything pointing towards Allah
- It is also a scene of Judgment day
- Hearts and sight have different points of view and states of hearts
- The hearing is all the same
- The Quran is heard the same for everyone
- What came into your heart is different
- They have great punishment, Allah does not like punishing people
- These people saw the Prophet and they still are blind
-
And among the people are those who say they believe in Allah and even in the last day but in reality they do not believe at all by any stretch of the imagination
- It is referring to hypocrites
- Those who say one thing and do something else
- The believers ae obvious and disbelievers are obvious
- Hypocrites are complicated
- The most talked about group
- These people receive great anger from Allah
- The hypocrites are the lowest in the stages of hell
- Allah went out of his to keep the hypocrites a secret
- The Prophet did not name the hypocrites
- Everyone who knew who the worst hypocrite is Abdullah bin Ubayy
-
Abdullah bin Ubayy
- Madinah was called Yathrib
- Yahrib has 12 counties
- Abdullah was from biggest county from among them
- People decided to unify all counties of Yathrib
- They inaugurated a king Abdullah
- Abdullah was gonna be inaugurated but Prophet arrives in Madinah
- Then the political campaign is over
- Prophet is now the leader
- Abdullah could be direct enemy or with Prophet
- Opposing the Prophet is losing
- If you can’t beat them join them
- He want to be close to Prophet
- The closest to Prophet were the ones who made most sacrifices
- Now leadership of Madinah belongs in hands of immigrant
- He would show up to the prayer early and be in first row
- He would say people listen up this is the Messenger of Allah
- He missed the mic time and he wanted to show face
- Everyone is equal now
- Keep your friends close and your enemies closer
- Allah is so vast in his speech that He targets multiple groups with same statement
-
Example
- In a classroom the teacher says some people are in big trouble
- Many people think they are being referred to
- There are two categories of hypocrites
- Those that openly deny Islam and hide it
- Those who did not know what they entered into
- Joining Islam back then was declaring war against Quresh
- It came with consequences
- In Madinah times were easier to accept Islam
- The Jewish Rabbis recognized the Prophet and got terrified
- If the accept the Prophet then no one will attend their lecture
- They will go from being teachers to students
- Corrupt religious leaders are like corrupt politicians
- They turn religion into a business
- They talk bad about the other groups
- Rabbis told the congregation do not listen to the Muslims
- Some of the congregation listen to Prophet
- Rabbi says be careful play ignorant or you will be held responsible
- They mentioned belief in Allah and afterlife but left out Prophet
- No one should name anyone a hypocrite
- Hypocrisy is in the heart and only Allah knows what is in the heart
- Hypocrites say over and over again we believe in Allah and the last day
- The more someone says it the more guilty they are of not believing
- They are paranoid of being asked and called a hypocrite
- The hypocrites expose themselves
- Allah says from among the people because He is disgusted with them
- Hypocrite says we believe because he wants to blend in with the Muslims
- They are not able to say we believe in Messenger because they hate him
- Imaan is on your tongue and in your heart
- Sometimes what comes out is connected to your heart and sometimes its not
- What is said on the tongue is called Muslim
- What is in the heart is called Mumin
- Imaan fills up your heart like water in a container
- Imaan never stays stationary
- You have to keep filling it and when you stop it decreases
- The opposite of Muslim and Mumin is Kafir
- Sometimes a kafir shows his kufr and sometimes he hides it
- Is kufr in Quran opposite of Imaan or Islam
- We need to assume all Muslims as Mumin
- The lower imaan is the closer it gets to hypocrisy
-
They try to deceive Allah and the believers but they only deceive themselves and they perceive not.
- There were three kinds of reactions in Makkah
- Believers will never leave Islam
- Disbelievers will never accept Islam
- Extreme love and extreme hate for the deen of Allah
- There was a middle group through that was neutral
- Those who wanted to compromise in the deen
- This happened in Makkah and Madinah
- This is the same for all Prophets
- There is a parallel between Musa and Prophet
- Prophet has been named in Quran 5 times
- Musa is mentioned more than 70 times in the Quran
- The closest one in mission to Prophet was Musa
- In Madinah there are the Ansar
- The Ansar welcomed the immigrants from Makkah
- Prophet did not command Ansar to join in battle
- The Ansar volunteered to join the battle
- The leaders in Jewish community were the opposite reaction
- There is an ideological conflict which becomes a war of you let it grow
- The middle category are the Muslims who just accepted Islam in Madinah
- A question arises in this ayah
- Allah forces us to think about the Quran
- Why is the Prophet missing
- Who can try to deceive Allah
- There are actually trying to deceive the Messenger
- Allah is saying deceiving the Messenger is the same as deceiving Allah
- When we obey Allah we actually obeying Allah and the Messenger
- You can never separate between Allah and the Messenger
