Surah Al Muminoon
و عملوا الصالحات Surah Al Mu’minoon (23): Doing Righteous Deeds
“People who have faith have succeeded.” (23:1)
-
Having faith itself is defined as success
-
أفلح : to be successful after consistent hard work
ف الّح : the farmer who cuts down the harvest at the end of the year...a farmer isn’t sure that the crops will go well the whole planting season, but they still do all the work and have faith that they will reap the fruit of their labor
“They are those who especially in their prayers are khaashi3oon” (23:2)
-
خاشعون : people who feel fearful, humbled, and overpowered especially in salah, which means they feel khushoo’ even outside the salah
-
How to develop khushoo’
-
Make Wudu for every salah, even if you already have wudu
-
Make Wudu slowly, deliberately
-
Pray Sunnah before your Fard...its like practice before the big game
-
07. A Thematic Overview
Summary (3b)
Day 14 │Qur’an for Young Adults │1
-
Recite slowly even if you don’t understand the meaning
-
Pause for a moment when you do dhikr in salah
-
Perform the movements of Salah slowly and deliberately
-
Take the Meaningful Prayer course with Sh. AbdulNasir Jangda
-
Understand the greatness of the ayaat that you chose to recite after Fatihah
“If We had sent down this Qur'an upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and coming apart from fear of Allah. And these examples We present to the people that perhaps they will give thought.” (Sahih International) (59:21)
When you meet someone important, it has an effect on you...shouldn’t our salaat have a greater impact on us?
“And those who consistently turn away from laghw” (23:3) لغو : useless activity and speech
-
We are allowed to entertain ourselves: play video games, but don’t be “a gamer”
-
Volunteer or get a job! We learn the value of time!
“And those who constantly focus on purifying themselves.” (23:4)
Day 14 │Qur’an for Young Adults │2
فاعلون : some translate this ayah to mean “they give zakat” but then the Arabic we would expect to see is “مؤتون” not "فاعلون" , which indicates that these people actively work on self improvement
“Those who guard their chastity” (23:5)
-
If we don’t guard our eyes, we will lose our dignity and reduce our relationships to solely our animal desires
-
See Surah Hashr:
“And be not like those who forgot Allah , so He made them forget themselves. Those are the defiantly disobedient.” (Sahih International) (59:19)
Guys: don’t play “the game.” The girl may not know what you’re scheming, but Allah swt does. Guard your eyes! Don’t be alone with your laptop/smartphone with wifi! Remember the hadith of the Prophet (S):
إذا لم تستح فاصنع ما شئت
“If you have no shame, then do as you please” (Sahih Bukhari)
...meaning if you don’t have hayaa, you can do whatever you want because you aren’t a Muslim.
Girls: don’t allow yourselves to be manipulated...guys are sweet-talkers, guys will “listen” they will “understand you” but they aren’t interested in you as a person! Guys only have one goal in mind... Practical advice – toughens your voices around guys, don’t
Day 14 │Qur’an for Young Adults │3
be giggly. Don’t seek to affirm your worth as a human through the lusting stares of guys.
“And they are the ones who are constantly on top of their trusts.” (23:8)
-
Keep your word. All types of things, whether its corruption, wars, divorce...all of these things stem from a lack of trust
-
As the Arab poet says:
“If you say yes to something then fulfill it, Because certainly 'yes' is a liability hanging over a decent person that is obligatory.
If you can't, then just say no, you will be at ease. So that people don't say you are a liar.”
“And those who guard especially their prayers” (23:9)
Prayer should be what you schedule your entire life around
“They, THEY are The Inheritors.” (23:10)
Day 14 │Qur’an for Young Adults │4
“They are the ones who will inherit Al-Firdaws. They will live in it forever.” (23:11)
-
Jannatul Firdaws is the highest level of Jannah...so Believers will not simply inherit just ANY house in Jannah, but the nicest homes prepared in Jannatul Firdaws!
-
The previously mentioned hadith shows the mercy of Allah...he wants all of humanity to make it to Jannatul Firdaws, otherwise why would he prepare their homes for them?
